The highest scoring soccer game in history took place on October 31, 2002, in Madagascar. The match was part of the national championship and pitted two teams, AS Adema and SO l’Emyrne, against each other.
During the game, AS Adema were awarded a penalty after just a few minutes of play. Rather than scoring the penalty, Adema intentionally kicked the ball out of bounds as a protest against what they believed were biased refereeing decisions in their previous matches. The SO l’Emyrne players, in a show of solidarity with their opponents, scored own goals for the rest of the game, leading to a final score of 149-0 in favor of AS Adema.
The match gained international attention for its unusual circumstances and the record-breaking scoreline. It remains the highest-scoring game in the history of soccer.
